Volunteer Ski Patrol at CMR
Thank you for expressing interest in the Camelback Ski Patrol. As volunteer Ski Patrollers, our primary mission is to provide first aid, extrication and transportation services to injured patrons of the Camelback Mountain Resort. We additionally act as ambassadors to the skiing public, and have on-the-hill maintenance and area opening and closing duties. Being a member of the Camelback Ski Patrol is an immensely rewarding experience. Some of the benefits of patrolling include:
Primarily, we are able to assist other skiers if they are injured or in need of other assistance while being able to participate in skiing, a sport we all love. We also help to reduce accidents and to enforce the Skiers’ Responsibility Code.
- We are members of a nationally recognized skiing and rescue organization.
- We are able to learn new skills including EMT level first aid and advanced skiing and toboggan handling, and we are able to participate in additional patrol training including mountaineering and avalanche awareness.
- We belong to a closely knit organization that continually supports its members, and we are able to meet with and ski with members of other patrols in the area.
- We are afforded discounts on equipment and many Camelback services, including a chit good for one day’s ski pass to Camelback for every day or night time requirement met.
Because of our obligation to the skiing public and to Camelback Mountain Resort to provide high quality services in all of the above areas, there are a number of requirements that must be met to join our Patrol. They include:
You must be a strong intermediate or beginning expert skier.
- You must satisfactorily complete:
- *National Ski Patrol’s Outdoor Emergency Care(OEC) Course and a CPR/AED for the professional course (Approximately cost $170.00).
- *Camelback skiing and toboggan handling training.
- Upon completion of initial training and acceptance as a Camelback Patroller, you must purchase a Camelback Patrol Jacket (Approximate cost $200.00), and Patrol belt (Approximate cost $50.00). The Patrol will supply first aid supplies.
- Annually, all patrollers must attend Camelback’s annual 8 hour On-The-Hill course, an 8 hour CPR/AED refresher class, and an eight hour OEC refresher class as well as pay an annual registration fee to the National Ski Patrol of $66 per year (current fee).
- You must complete 13 on-duty days and one on-duty night each ski season week. The on-duty night of the week and/or day will be selected based on your schedule and our coverage needs.
